About
It may be of some importance before discussing what this blog will be About to lay bare an important assumption from which we are operating. In so doing, we may push forward this blog’s subtitle, “examining our presuppositions on life, power, and freedom.” It is our concern (but not solely ours) that an intolerable and ancient heresy has crept into and pervaded the Evangelical Christian faith. Evangelicalism has become dangerously, if not fatally, preoccupied with the individual pursuit and surety of an “afterlife”; that is, we have become far too concerned with the detached spiritual (what or how it will be when it’s all gone) at the expense of the interconnected physical (what or how it can be right now). Put simply, this heresy is a form of Gnosticism, either in part or in whole. This quasi- or neo-Gnosticism is lethal to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and in our opinion, pervasive and perhaps even definitive of Evangelicalism.
Therefore, in “examining our presuppositions on life, power, and freedom,” we will look into how the Gospel of Jesus Christ plays out – not in part but wholly – within our specific context of the United States in the twenty-first century. As we set forth, we may, as our tag line suggests, need to deconstruct our very own presuppositions on such topics. Consequently, it is our hope that we may find – or join others who have journeyed down this road before us – better options or a better system than what we presently deal with. Additionally, it is our prayer that we may find Truth in the midst of a chaotic, fallen world; a world highly influenced and impacted by an inconsistent (at best) or corrupt (at worst) brand of Christianity.
The attentive reader will easily recognize that this About section has been highly veiled and nuanced. As you can see, there is much to be discussed. There is much to be questioned. There is much to be discovered.
